Risai Kahari did both, first as a corporate lawyer, and now as a self-made content creator, published photographer, and creative entrepreneur inspiring a generation of dream-chasers.
Today, she’s behind the lens capturing love stories at weddings, documenting the wonders of 27 countries (and counting), and sharing her vibrant journey across platforms like Risai Wanders, YouTube, and Instagram. But it all started with a spark. One trip. One moment. One decision to pivot.
“I started my travel content journey in 2020 after a trip to Bali, Indonesia. That trip reignited something in me,” says Risai. “I started documenting my travels on Instagram as a visual photo diary — just for fun. Eventually that turned into YouTube. And then a blog. And now…it’s a career.”
It’s the kind of shift many dream about — leaving the safety of a 9-to-5 to chase a creative calling. But for Risai, it wasn’t just about leaving. It was about stepping into something that had always been there: her passion for photography, for people, and for seeing the world through a different lens (literally).
She’s photographed weddings, elopements, and breathtaking landscapes. She’s told stories through vlogs and reels. And in October 2024, she’ll tick off a major milestone: seeing her own travel article in print, featured in a magazine she’s long admired.
“My little dream of being a writer has come true,” she shares.
It hasn’t always been easy. Moving from the buzzing streets of Joburg to the wild beauty of Cape Town came with its own lessons. But for someone who thrives on change, it was just another chapter in the adventure.
“As an avid traveller, I never say no to moving to a new city,” says Risai. “Change brings new experiences and new stories — and I’m here for all of it.”
