Meet Rauna Ndeilenga, the Cape Town entrepreneur behind N | MARTIN, a fashion and lifestyle brand of sculptural clothing, jewellery and accessories.

Some brands get their names from a brainstorm. NMARTIN's name comes from something more personal: family. The name honours Rauna's parents, her father, Martin, and her mother, Ndona, who is represented by the “N”. It's a meaningful connection that reflects the foundation of the brand Rauna Ndeilenga has built: personal, considered and rooted in the influences that shaped her creative journey.

A name with a family behind it

Originally from Namibia and now based in Cape Town, Rauna's creative journey is shaped by her upbringing, family influences and experiences in both places. Her approach to fashion is rooted in observation, individuality and an appreciation for the details that make a piece distinctive.

“NMARTIN is personal to me because it carries my parents' influence. My father, Martin, has always been particular about how he dresses and takes care of his clothes. Watching that growing up shaped my appreciation for clothing and how we present ourselves. The N represents my mother, Ndona, so the name brings both of them into something I've built creatively. It is a way of carrying that influence with me as I develop my own identity as a designer and build the brand.”

Clothes that think about how you move

N | MARTIN's clothing "explores proportion, structure and movement". In plain terms, these are clothes that care about how they hang, how they shift when you walk, and how they sit with the rest of what's in your cupboard.

The brand says it approaches "each collection and edit with intention, paying attention to how a piece feels, how it moves and how it can be worn." There's no quantity-over-quality here, and no seasonal panic-buying. Each piece has to earn its place.

Curation meets creation

N | MARTIN doesn't only make things. It also chooses them. Alongside its own clothing, the brand curates jewellery and accessories, "selected for their sculptural forms and the way they work within a wardrobe".

That's a clever bit of entrepreneurship. Designing a collection and curating an edit are different skills, and running both under one roof means every piece has to make sense next to every other piece. One clear eye ties it together.

Designing and curating come from the same creative perspective. I'm drawn to distinctive forms, quality and versatility. Whether I'm creating clothing or selecting jewellery, I consider how each piece fits into someone's wardrobe. My biggest challenge is finding enough time to balance designing, sourcing and the day-to-day responsibilities of running the business.

Running the business side

“stub has helped me become more organised with the financial side of NMARTIN. I particularly appreciate the invoicing and transaction categorisation features, which give me a clearer understanding of my business finances and help me make more informed decisions. The daily fortune cookie is the cherry on top - managing your finances can also be fun.”

Why N | MARTIN

Entrepreneur’s of stub celebrates South African entrepreneurs who build something for the world. N | MARTIN does that from the name down. It's a brand with a point of view, a family story, and a Cape Town address, run by someone who pays attention to how a piece "feels, how it moves and how it can be worn."

Running your own brand means doing the creative work and everything else as well. We're here for entrepreneurs like Rauna who make both look good.
