The Man With A Microphone: What Podcasting Taught Sean Loots About Being An Entrepreneur

Voice artist. Producer. Dad. Podcaster. Entrepreneur. Coffee drinker.

You might know him as the voice behind Something Shifted. Or maybe you’ve heard him on the radio, or in a brand ad slotted between episodes of your favourite playlist.

But behind the polished mic presence and award-winning storytelling, Sean Loots is an entrepreneur - the kind who proves that business and creativity don’t live in separate boxes.

This is how he built something meaningful.

A business built on shifts

Sean Loots started his career on stage, a youngster born for the crowd. That talent evolved behind the mic, first into radio (MFM 92.6, Good Hope FM, Magic 828), and then into voice-over work, podcasting, producing, and facilitating.

And now? His very own business.

Today, Sean is the founder of Latitude Podcast Studio, a consulting and production hub for brands, creatives, and agencies that want to make high-impact podcasts. He’s also the host of Something Shifted, a show that explores the life moments that change us, often the hard ones, sometimes the joyful ones, always the real ones.

But ask him what it’s really all about, and he’ll tell you this:

“Audio storytelling really has the power to make a change in the world.”

It’s not just about downloads or good sound quality. For Sean, podcasting is about purpose:

“To help people share their stories, make authentic connections, and hopefully make a strong impact on the world around them.”

Creativity, but make it sustainable

You won’t find Sean using the word 'business' in every second sentence. But don’t let that fool you, this man runs a tight ship.

From quoting and pitching to producing and invoicing, Sean built his creative career into a full-time, full-hearted business. Not because it was easy, but because it was necessary.
“Creativity isn’t necessarily paint on canvas or clay into a shape,” he says.
“It’s about exploration. It’s about discovery. And in a way — entrepreneurship is creativity.”

That mindset changed everything.

Instead of waiting for work, Sean built a studio. Instead of hoping for connection, he created a podcast. Instead of working alone, he collaborates, mentors, and sits on boards that shape the future of African podcasting.

And he’s just getting started.

What we love about Sean

We love people like Sean. He’s proof that creativity and structure can co-exist. That purpose and profit can go hand in hand. And behind every business is a person who said, “Let’s try.”

Sean’s journey reminds us that building something meaningful doesn’t always start with a business plan. Sometimes, it starts with a story. A shift. A mic. A message.

And the guts to share it.
