Choose which notifications you get

Decide what reaches your inbox, your email and your screen, and what stays quiet.

stub keeps an eye on your business while you get on with running it: an invoice that's gone overdue, a bank feed that needs you, a team member's change, a job Ask stub has finished. Notifications tell you about it. You decide which ones reach you, and how, so the urgent things get through and the rest waits for a quiet moment.

Notifications are on every plan, and each person on your team sets their own.

Where notifications show up

Everything lands in your Inbox. Click the round tray button at the top of the screen, or press . (full stop), to open it. A number on the button counts the things that need you.

  • Click a notification to go straight to what it's about.
  • Its ··· menu marks it read or unread, and See what changed shows the changes behind it in the activity log.
  • Mark all read at the top clears the lot, and the gear beside it opens your notification settings.

You can tell at a glance who a notification is from. One caused by a team member wears their colour, the same colour they have on the Team page and in the activity log. Anything stub, a schedule or a connected app did shows that area's icon on grey.

To choose what else happens, go to Settings → Notifications. It has two sections: Email and Alerts.

Email: pick a summary, then fine-tune each kind

Start with the Summary: one email that rounds up everything that didn't need you straight away. Click Edit, choose Daily or Weekly and the hour it arrives under Send it at, or turn it Off, then click Save.

Then click Configure beside Notifications to choose, for each kind of notification, how it reaches your email:

  • Off — no email. It still shows in your Inbox.
  • Daily summary (or Weekly summary) — it goes in your summary email.
  • Immediately — an email the moment it happens.

With the summary off, each kind offers only Off and Immediately, and any kind you had set to the summary shows as Off until you turn the summary back on.

Alerts: pop-ups for urgent things

Switch on Alerts to "Show a pop-up for urgent things the moment they happen" while you're working in stub. With it on, click Configure beside Notifications to switch the pop-up on or off for each kind. With Alerts off, nothing pops up, and everything still waits in your Inbox.

Things you can't turn off

A few notifications matter too much to miss, so they read Always on and have no switch.

Tip: Use Immediately sparingly. Keep it for the few things you'd act on straight away, and let the daily summary carry the rest. Your inbox stays calm, and the emails that do arrive get read.
